The time for final operational decisions has arrived. After 16 months, the tests are complete (some two or three times), doctors have scrutinized the x-rays, the charts, my vital signs, weight, done exploratory surgery to examine a heart valve and know everything medically about me. Except for my emphysema, I am in perfect health! How ironic that sounds! In previous conversation, surgeons have discussed with me that LVRS operations are ‘quality of life’ operations, not life saving operations. There are no guarantees. I understand that, if successful, this operation can help me live a better life for 3-6 years. Beyond that time frame is anyone’s guess. I understand and accept these facts.
